I'm an Italian detectorist. A couple of months ago I bought a White's Matrix
M6 from an Italian dialer. I started to use it applying what I had seen in your
videos available on your site. I started to find some coins and some trash too
(pull tabs and so on). I love this machine: always precise regarding pinpoint
and lcd screen. Just a week ago I decided to scan a little park close to my
home. After a few sweeps I saw a clear signal of a quarter on the lcd. Usually
when I find coins the value and the symbols bounce a little due to the
difference between american and european coins. But this time the signal and
the symbol were fixed and steady. Pinpoint, about 4 inches, dug out...and WOW:
a real nice 1932 quarter. I kept on sweeping in the area and after a while BAM!
another fix & steady signal: 5C! Dug out and I found 1943 five cent. At the end
of the morning the result was: I don't know if they have a value or not, but they were IN ITALY!!! I live in Grosseto (about 80 miles south of Florence) and after a search I found that during WWII, the park I visited was an american camp (mess hall, rest room and so on). It's so curious that a machine made in USA, arrived in Italy, could have found another piece of the SA. I just wanted to share this feeling with you.

I've always been interested in the hobby of detecting so after years of reading, research and just plain procrastination I decided to buy a Whites DFX. I chose the DFX because it was top of the line, easy to master and light weight. The first week in January 2005 was the first time I ever picked up a detector and at this point I don't think I'll ever put it down. Being an American in Germany truly does have its rewards considering occupation of these lands date past the 3000 year mark easily. I know this not only from my research, also through one of my finds made a couple months ago. While wondering through the woods and picking up the occasional solid trash signal I had a very hard hitting signal reading at about 4.5 inches deep. As I carefully turned the soil I immediately noticed my prize sticking out from the mound, a nearly 3000 year old Bronze Age dagger head with a beautiful green patina. I sent pictures to "Treasure Hunting Magazine" in England who verified it as a Museum quality Bronze Age Dagger dating before 500 B.C. The article can be found on page 78 of the August 2005 issue. Thus far I would have to credit my success to my DFX that, amazingly enough, can accept custom programs. To date, I've found over 200 identifiable Bronze Roman Coins, over 180 Bronze Roman Coins without features (Slugs), 2 Silver Roman Coins, 1 Celtic coin, 1 Gold coin, a Bronze Age Dagger, countless numbers of modern coins dating 1786 to present both Silver and mixed metals, Horse Shoes, Spurs, Bells, Thimbles, Buttons, Buckles, Musket balls from the French and Prussian War, and the list goes on. Since my Son was born, 14-June-2005, I haven't really been out much so my main success was during the first six months of the year. Detecting is a hobby that I'll stick with for the rest of my life and at just 31 years old I hope to one day be able to detect with my son.   I am a detector/hobbyist who found his first golden coin! My detector is a White's Classic II and the coin I found is a 2 Escudo from the year 1596. It was a cold afternoon and the sand where they are going to build new houses was nearly frozen. Cold hands and feet after a long time searching, very little beeping sounds and while it was getting darker, there was a good loud beep. I stabbed my spade in the ground through the sand before me and I saw the gold laying in the sand. No doubt, my first gold coin. I found it not such a beauty, but gold is gold and I stuck it in my jeanspocket. So now I am looking for a buyer for my coin, so I can buy a White's XLT detector!! Hank, The Netherlands |
